Template:File archive/doc

This page contains the documentation for Template:File archive. It includes information about the template, such as usage and categories, and is not displayed when using the template itself.

This template is used to link to a local archive file of an external resource, such as a forum post, in case the external site goes down. This template must always be used for such files because it will list the page as linking to the file and remove it from Special:UnusedFiles. See also Category:Archive files.

Parameters

• first unnamed parameter - required, the name of the local file including the extension but not the File: prefix.
• (optional) second unnamed parameter - the text to display for the archive link, defaults to "local archive" and should usually contain the word "archive" if replaced.
