The South Pacific is a Feeder region in NationStates. It claims to be the oldest Game Created Region (GCR) democracy in NationStates. Beginning in 2003, some of the most notable Delegates since the founding of the government included LadyRebels, Goddessness, Fudgetopia, and Tsunamy. The region operates with several branches of government. The government, which is said to have existed since the beginning of The South Pacific, is called the Coalition of the South Pacific. All positions are elected in this region. The South Pacific is unique among Feeders in that they also include the gameside residents as valid votes in their major elections. The South Pacific was independent in alignment for many years and has recently formalized the change to a defender regime. Their military, the South Pacific Special Forces, operates purely on defenses. The Charter of The South Pacific has been amended several times, but maintains the same principles.

Government of The South Pacific

The Executive

The Executive branch of The South Pacific consists of the elected Prime Minister and their Cabinet. The Prime Minister is the head of government and major power in the region and determines the cooperation and cohesiveness of executive duties and good relations with the community. The Cabinet is determined by the Charter to consist of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Regional Affairs (MoRA), and Military Affairs (MoMA). The Cabinet cooperates to achieve their various goals but are subject to the approval of the Prime Minister. The various departments are also treated as democratic and require cooperation with the department members. All Executive positions are elected every four months.

The Local Council

The Local Council is the governing body of the gameside community of The South Pacific. It consists of three residents of the region. The purpose of the Local Council is to maintain gameside order and represent the players of the region. It specifically determines issues for the gameside community. While they may administrate themselves, they also are not permitted to pass anything that contradicts the existing constitutional laws. This also means that the forumside community cannot legislate the jurisdiction of the Local Council.

The Delegate

A Delegate is elected once every six months and do not have term limits. The Delegate is technically head of state, but they are not the power behind the Executive branch. Their tasks include security management, activity promotion, and advising the government. No hopeful for the Delegacy may have participated in a coup of The South Pacific or any allies. Such an action is an automatic disqualification for the position. The Delegate does work with the Local Council in moderating gameside.

The Assembly

The Assembly is the legislative body of The South Pacific. A Chair of the Assembly is elected once every four months, similar to the Executive. It is the supreme legislative authority of the Coalition in accordance with the Charter's directives. The Chair may appoint a deputy or multiple deputies to assist them in delegation of powers, and as easily dismiss them if they so choose. The Assembly requires being active and responsive to maintain membership in the legislative body.

The High Court

The High Court of The South Pacific is led by a Chief Justice and consists of other Associate Justices. It serves as the judiciary body of the Coalition. It has the ability to rule on any law that might violate the Charter, contradictions within the Charter itself, existing and new constitutional laws, all Cabinet decisions, and Local Council implementations. It has the power to clarify laws if it so chooses if issued a legal question. The High Court is the only power in The South Pacific able to conduct criminal trials. The procedures for the High Court are determined by the Assembly.
