==Contested vs. Termed Wars==
Factions generally engage in two types of ranked wars: contested or termed.
In a '''contested war''', both factions fight fully in order to seek the victory. A contested war will generally see an NPO faction do a full stack of Xanax (900 or 1000 energy) and engage in all-out war. Contested wars require coordination between members to help take control of the battlefield, with lower-battle-stat players often assisting higher-battle-stat players to take down enemies who could not be taken down alone. Strategy plays a key role in these wars to take control of the battlefield and ensure we can defend against attempts by the enemy to take control back to win the war.
In a '''termed war''', our faction and our opponents will agree to terms to split the proceeds of cache rewards. This is done either when we are matched against an allied faction or when one faction believes it is more prudent not to contest the war. Factions agree to terms when they believe the payout will be more beneficial than fighting a contested war. In a termed war, members may not do a full Xanax stack, may have a limit on hits/assists, and will generally have a target score limit. The losing side will hit a point total to maximize their reward for a loss, and the winning side will hit the necessary point total to win (or to allow a decay victory). It is typically agreed to hit offline players only unless arranged otherwise. Often peace perks will be kept on so training can continue while the war decays.
For some time following the release of the ranked warring system, it was common for the agreed losing faction not to hit the opponent at all, with active players given the option to med out of the hospital upon being hit to allow the war to conclude more quickly. With occasional changes to RW rewards and their calculation, winning and losing strategies have evolved over time.
In NPO, members are paid out for hits, assists, and, in some circumstances, losses, performed during a ranked war using a ticket system which provides a value for each type of attack.

Contested vs. Termed Wars

Factions generally engage in two types of ranked wars: contested or termed.

In a contested war, both factions fight fully in order to seek the victory.

In a termed war, our faction and our opponents will agree to terms to split the proceeds of cache rewards.
